wanted to do a poll, I've purchased several EV's, and never got a tax credit, wanted to see if Subaru owners feel the same, there are other forums for other EV's that buyers/potential buys voiced no interest due to the tax credit.

The purpose of any incentive is to get people off the fence, but in the process you make payments to some people who are already "off the fence". Free rider problem.

There’s a great argument to be made that no tax credits should be available for any EVs, since there’s more demand than currently available supply. Once that ratio reverses, tax credits may be desirable or even necessary.

I‘d absolutely love a $7500 tax credit, but I completely understand the logic of why it’s the way it is…

As the old saying goes… Timing is everything.

Tax credits were implemented to help make EVs more affordable. So that answer really depends on the cost of the car. If EVs were truly affordable, we wouldn’t need a tax credit but they aren’t. They cost way more money than ice vehicles, even when you take gas and maintenance into account. It shouldn’t take 7 years to even out the extra cost of an EV. So even if you trade your car every 7 years, there is no financial benefit to an EV. That is why tax credits are necessary. Environmental reasons are another story.

I left Washington state in Oct, the other vehicle threads are thrashing the credit, cause you get smeared buying a new car, especially the electric kind...cause the sales tax and registration eats over the tax credit...I left Hawaii in 2019, your registration was tied to vehicle weight, so for 2 electric cars, was almost, 4000 dollars for tabs...ouch, on one had we have to chip in for roads since we aren't paying for fuel tax, but do you have to hit us with a base ball bat...so that tax credit...here you go, ok we take it back, thank you, enjoy your Subaru...sorry for the pot holes

As a retired person, I would need the help, but can no longer use the tax credit. Fortunately my state has a generous cash rebate for EVs, part of which is income needs based - perfect for somebody living on a moderate fixed income. And it doesn't have a US-content requirement like the Federal tax credit does, though it doesn't apply to more expensive EVs. In that sense, the state system really is designed to help people who need it.
