I am getting this from some of his posts I've seen on the Ascent forum. Don't get me wrong. He sounds like a great guy, and how he has supported the Ascent community.

Lookin' good. Almost tests the 19.7" max depth the Solterra is supposed to have. Those 20" wheels help with the estimate.

I love EV's. My best friend has a Tesla. And I think the Rivian is AMAZING. I hope Subaru releases a four wheel hub motor based version of the Ascent asap - or at least by the time I've hit 200,000 miles on my Ascent. And, I am hoping that, by then, solid state batteries and other upcoming battery technology will be mainstream, allowing me to off-road the places I enjoy off roading, which are usually the last (sadly) to adopt such technologies, and will be the hardest to find fast enough chargers for my driving pace.
Anyway, once they come out with an Ascent sized vehicle with features like that, I assure you, I'll be one of the first pre-orders. (Solterra is way too small for my needs, just like the Outback I outgrew).
In the meantime, I love every viable and valid step by every manufacturer, to make it more mainstream, and more available for everyone.
What I am not a fan of is Toyota's interior or tacked on rear mascara lines on the Solterra. The head unit is neat, but, I much prefer Subaru's seating materials and door materials, etc. I expect soon, Subaru will release something that's "all their own". Regardless, please don't mistake my dislike of the very-Toyota interior for a dislike of the Solterra. I like the Solterra - but, as you're probably aware, I love my Ascent - yet there's things I dislike on my Ascent, too, regardless of how much I love it as a whole.
I hope to have more vids, if our newest MtnRoo member decides to join us on some more adventures!!!
Hey, Robert, welcome to the Solterra forum. Yes, I don't think the Solterra will meet your requirements. It is not a trip car with its lower range and slower charging. But it does have more off-road chops than other EVs, with its higher clearance and X-modes.
While there is a lot of Toyota in this car, I very much like how it drives and some of the advanced features like 360 cameras, incl a vertical view when manoeuvring in tight spaces. The lane trace assist is pretty cool, and lets you drive hands off (other than a light touch/nudge once in a while). And it holds true around curves and slows down when necessary. It makes freeway and highway driving more relaxing.
Anyway, not sure what/when will be coming with future Subaru EVs. I am sure though that Toyota will continue to support that development with Subaru. I think that is a good thing. I don't believe Subaru has the deep pockets and expertise to go it alone. But hopefully, future EVs will indeed have more Subaru in them.

I have an idea of what's next. But more importantly, since nothing is set in stone for the future, would you like to help Subaru chart their EV future? If so, shoot me a DM. They'll send you a $50 Amazon Gift Card if you complete their survey
