In theory, the Solterra app is very useful, but in practice it has been disappointing for me. Specifically, it doesn’t “refresh” unless I connect by locking the door (or some other action) and then when it does “refresh”, it doesn’t give an accurate reading for the range (the range on the app is lower than the actual range reading from the car itself). The reason this is disappointing is that I’m often inside in cold, windy weather waiting for the car to charge outdoors. So, it would be nice if I could stay warm and not have to go outside to see what the actual range is. Anyone else having these app issues? If so, any tricks I can do to fix the problems? Thanks.

You can manually "force" the app to refresh, by updating the Vehicle Status, and then by touching on the % Charge display (you might also/instead need to pull down on the app screen to force the refresh). I haven't found a way to make it happen in fewer steps. Yes, it is a little annoying (compared to say the MyBMW app which was > 6 years old by the time I stopped using it, so a lot more mature). Change will happen, but you should contact the app developer to communicate your concerns/suggestions.

Thanks for your suggestion to contact the developer and for another way to refresh the app. Do you also find that the range from the app is significantly lower than the range stated in the car itself?

Is it still lower after you refreshed the app per JayEM's suggestion? And are you also going to the next level by pressing the initial range and SOC, where it shows battery icon and the updated range?

Below are two photos I took this afternoon. The times are circled. As you can see, there’s a huge discrepancy unless there’s something I don’t understand, which is always possible.

Not at all. I've noticed that the range reported in the app very closely matches the "in your dreams" (HVAC off) range displayed in the car.

It's possible/likely that the in-app SOC% and range were out of date, given that the car was actively charging at the time you took the screenshot.

I've never compared the in-car versus in-app ranges while charging, sorry.

@nanzsolterra the in-app SOC % and range will update when you tap that part of the screen and go to the "Remote Charge" screen, and then back to home, as @R P mentioned.

You may be correct that the range in the app is incorrect while the car is charging but, of course, that makes that feature useless if I want to avoid going outside to find out the current range but I guess there’s some value in understanding why things don’t work the way you want them to…

I used to have that battery image but it’s no longer on the app. Hasn’t been there for awhile. Any idea where it went to? You’re always so helpful and it’s always appreciated.

Are you using iOS or Android? I just took the screenshot I just posted, from the Android version of the app. Follow @n6nl 's suggestion, if that area appears in your app.

The issue I have is the opposite. The app always shows a higher range than the vehicle and that was explained to me at the dealership. In order for them to match you have to have AC completely off in the vehicle - that will make your range jump up approximately 30 miles. The app does not account for the car running with AC on. My issue is also that I live in a condo and park underground. Because my car does not get 4G signal in the garage the app is useless from my condo apartment. It won’t refresh or tell me anything. It sis beyond my understanding why Subaru/Toyota would not use Wi-Fi, which I have in my building garage, to also update the app.
