SiriusXM Welcome Letter to my new... Toyota?

I received a letter from SiriusXM abut the trial in my new Toyota. Problem is I own a Solterra. Anyone else receiving official correspondence referring to their Solterra as a Toyota?

Yep. I sent it right back (in their prepaid envelope) and said, "Please put me on your DO NOT MAIL LIST in accordance with Federal Law."

Please look at the thread detailing issues with the VIN. Some earlier models had a VIN indicating it was a Toyota and not Subaru. That should have been fixed. I’m addition, all the connected services and telematics are provided by Toyota and not Subaru. That’s most likely why Sirius is calling it a Toyota. .

I get the problem. I see it more as an embarrassment for Subaru and Toyota and not a personal insult or affront in any way. One the matter of the VIN issue being on earlier models... my car was manufactured in February 2023. This might be an old problem that was solved and is now back again.
Yes—my BZ4X is mis-vinned as a Subaru Solterra (opposite of your problem). All correspondence I receive is as such, and it confuses my local DMV and insurer as well.
They are not mis-VINed, the problem is that the companies that try to determine a model from a VIN use an extremely simplistic algorithm which pattern matches various positions in the VIN and value ranges in different positions in a crude attempt to determine the actual vehicle model.

Toyota assigned the VINs to actual vehicles (bZ4X and Solterra) in such a way that such a simplistic approach does not produce the correct results. To fix it for existing cars built before June 2022 would require an actual table of the individual VINs and actual model in order to properly determine the correct model.

Should Toyota have done it this way for those vehicles? In hindsight, probably not.

Did they do anything inconsistent with the written standard for assigning VINs? Probably not.

Were they failing to think through how other groups crudely attempt to ”decode” a VIN? Yep.

When Toyota moved the pattern assigned to bZ4X to its own unique pattern, they should also have moved the Solterra to its own, also. That way, only those vehicles built before Jun 2022 would be indeterminate.

Once a third party decides how they want to interpret VINs by pattern, they each got to choose what to do with JTMABABA VINs, which were assigned to both AWD Solterra from the beginning (and still being assigned) and pre-June 2022 AWD bZ4X. June 2022 and later AWD bZ4X are assigned only JTMABACA VINs. Toyota should have been smart about it and assigned a unique code to June 2022 and later AWD Solterra.

A pain in the ###.

Oh, look. 2 days later and another huge unsolicited mailing from SiriusXM for my bZ4X.

Putting the mistake around the model of car aside... The constant bombardment from SiriusXM is a real bummer every time I buy a car. I learned my lesson a few years ago and will never signup for the 3-month trial extension no matter how appealing SiriusXm tries to make it.

A question for the group here.I haven't looked into this yet, but does anyone know if it is possible to "delete" the SiriusXM section of the car interface? Once my free trial is over, I would like to hide it and never see it again.

My insurance company had the same problem. Had to override the Toyota with a Subaru on the policy

Yes, also Solterra connect by Toyota.

My insurance company and my Oregon state title both call it a Subaru BZ4X.

It is basically a Toyota with a Subaru all wheel drive system.

Yes, that happened to me but it’s happened so often in multiple situations that I now ignore it. The only time I cared about the mix-up was with my auto insurance. That was important to get correct. You’d get the Sirius service even if it states Toyota.
