When I took my Solterra in for its last service, and explained that I had already rotated the tires when I put the snow tires on, the service advisor said that if it was his car he would just skip the service, because there was nothing other than rotating the tires, that mattered much.

 

I'm just there for the donuts, coffee, and unbroken period when I am "forced" to just sit and read a good book for pleasure and can't do any work for that time...oh, darn...

 

I'll ask the question when my 2024 Solterra goes in for its 30,000km service...a month or so away.

 

How 'bout: American auto dealers make more profit on servicing vs selling, and insisted on more frequent recommended visits?

 

This short interval really pisses me off. My two prior EVs were BMW i3s. The service interval was 24 months (and was free/included in the purchase price).

At least the cost of tire rotation is minimal ($20), but it's the principle. My other Subarus (ICEs) cost a lot more to service.

 

I don’t disagree. Dealerships depend on service as important revenue streams, and moving to an EV dominated product isn’t exactly great news for service revenue.

 

True. The dealership that sold me the EV included servicing as part of the sales gig, so doesn't necessarily meet this criteria - but this particular dealership (Peninsula Subaru) has an exceptionally excellent reputation, and they have to compete with Seattle dealerships. Ford does reflect this attribute.
