I just received an email from SOA asking me to complete a confidential Solterra survey.

A lot of the questions appear to be aligned with what has been discussed here in this forum:
  • Are you planning to buy a Solterra or a different car this year? From Subaru or another brand?
  • If you are no longer planning to buy a Solterra, why not? Possible answers are price too high, range too short, charging too slow, etc.
  • Was the price higher/lower/similar to what you expected?
  • What price would the Solterra have to be for you to buy?

It was quite a few questions, with some of them allowing multiple answers. Considering the list of questions asked, I get the feeling that SOA has become aware of some of the concerns reservation holders have concerning price, range, and charging speed. There was very little focus on competition from other car companies, and no questions related to ADM (maybe they’re avoiding this area as they can’t really do much about the issue).

I took it as well. There seems to be some different logic paths depending on how you answer. I've wondered what the feedback could really effect now. Maybe they will give me a discount code...;)

Nope, charging too slow was not one of the possible answers. I was looking for that one, since that's my primary potential disappointment, although an actual Solterra test is still pending.

Your question mix must have been different from mine. I received that as a question, and I selected it as one of my answers.

Yes, I think Subaru had logic on the questions (depending on how you answer, you got different questions moving forward) but also randomization on the answer options. In some cases I had response options that meant the same thing and were worded different (on those big select the most important ones), so I wouldn't be surprised if someone had charging too slow as a possible option, and someone else did not.

Yes, it appears the algorithms set up by the (as disclosed) seemingly independent research company may lead one in many different directions.

My survey asked what I thought an acceptable range should be. i said 300 miles/
Mine didn't ask what an acceptable range would be. It asked what I thought the Solterra's range was going to be, since the previous question I indicated I thought it would have more than 222-228. I said 250.
I said 270... the other car I was seriously considering (EV6 AWD) does (around) 270. To get 300 in an AWD vehicle you generally have to pay quite a bit more $$.

I remember thinking on launch day last November, on hearing "over 220 miles"... well, that's disappointing.
