(Mod feel free to move to eyesight sub-forum if more appropriate)

any reviews from new owners on the capabilities of the new eyesight system? How does it compare to the current Subaru systems? Seen minimal reviews on the system and uncertain what capabilities will make it to North America.

It's a bit hard for owner to review this since nobody has taken delivery yet...that's still months away. The system on the Soltera, however, is derived from the Toyota equivalent so it's slightly different from the all optical Subaru Eyesight equipped vehicles.

Folks have gotten the Toyota Bz4x. Same system.

True. I was responding based on this being the Solterra forum and your question relative to current Subaru Eyesight. The Toyota system may be on vehicle other than just BZ4x, too...I don't know as I haven't looked at Toyota in years.

Subaru of Hungary has a nice eBrochure that has, among other things, a series of fun animations (set to a sweet techno beat!) highlighting the Safety Sense on the Solterra. It's on the 6th page (actually pages 10-11) at the link below.

Good point I worded the question poorly.

Just curious on the new system. Can you do hands free on the highway. I’ve seen some videos of self park and was curious about that. Not that I see myself using that feature. I really like eye sight and am looking forward to an upgrade. One of the reasons I haven’t gotten a new outback is I haven’t seen Subaru make any real improvements to the system. For me the self-driving/automatic safety are some of the higher priorities for a new car.

The safety systems in all Toyota and Subaru vehicles are “hands on” systems that will warn you if you take your hands off the wheel for too long. I think one of the best enhancements is the ability for the Solterra to completely stop with the hazard lights on if the driver becomes unresponsive (after a couple sets of inside warnings).

As far as a full review of the system (the title of this thread) I think the IIHS would be the best source.

When it comes to self-driving, my opinion is that this technology only creates more distracted drivers that won’t be able to take control of the vehicle when it gets into a situation the self-driving system doesn’t understand.

From the site below:
“Partial automation systems may make long drives seem like less of a burden, but there is no evidence that they make driving safer,” says IIHS President David Harkey. “In fact, the opposite may be the case if systems lack adequate safeguards.”

IIHS creates safeguard ratings for partial automation

Currently I believe only the new Lexus NX is also equipped with SS+ 3.0 although I’m sure other Toyota models being released will include it soon.

I can't find the source, but I think the Solterra has capacitive touch on the steering wheel to detect that you're still engaged during lane assist. Can anyone confirm?
