To ALL my fellow electric Subaru ( and not only Subaru) fans. Please be ready for a new surprise for those who has an electric vehicle. I just recently moved to my new place in CA. And guess what, Edison ( electrical company) asked me if I have electric car when I was transferring my account. Now, they will charge you more just because you have it. It is all about time when DMV and your local electrical company will work together to track you down as an electric car owner or leasee.

Yes, CA electric suppliers are not known for their customer friendly policies when it comes to alternative fuels for any purpose (they make it tough on rooftop solar purchasers as well).

Fortunately, that's not the case in CT. I pay the same rate, day or night, I get one for one credit for each kWh of electricity I send back to the grid from my solar panels, and I can get rebates from the power company for up to $500 towards the cost of a Level-2 home charger; $500 towards any rewiring or modifications necessary to install that charger, and $200 per year for having a web-connected model and allowing the utility to throttle it back if necessary in periods of high demand.

Did they tell you the rates would be different? Maybe they were just trying to make sure you had a panel/drop with enough total capacity. I know that's one of the biggest things I've been worried about is upgrading my panel to support not only 1 or 2 electric cars in the future, but solar and power wall as well. I don't even have a main breaker on my panel from 1980.
