Now that reservations have started I want to start this thread so we can keep track of dealerships that are selling the Solterra at MSRP and dealers that charging a markup.

If you see dealers doing either add them below so people know which ones are fair and which ones are trying to rip people off.

Good idea! GM and Ford recently warned dealers not to gouge buyers in this period of short inventory. I have seen nothing similar from Subaru.

Kendall Subaru in Eugene, Oregon called me today about my reservation and let me know they do not know MSRP yet but THEY WILL BE ADDING $5000 with no added value.

Will Subaru allow us to change dealers like Ford? That is total BS!

Geez, that's pretty blatant!

The sales mgr. at my dealership (Uftring Subaru in East Peoria, IL) sent me a text (and an email) stating simply:

"xxx xxx Sales Manager here at Uftring Subaru. Thank you for your order on the Subaru Solterra. We are excited for our new Electric vehicle. Let us know if you have any questions. Thank you again for you confidence in us and placing an order. Have a wonderful day."

I haven't discussed pricing at all. It might be significant that Uftring is also a Ford dealership and has sold numerous Mach Es (I test drove one the day we bought our 2021 Outback)... We do have an established relationship (4 Subarus going back 10 years) but I don't know how much that will help when it comes to ADM.

Much as I like what I've seen so far of the Solterra, it's not my only option. Other cars I'm looking at (Kia EV6...) are experiencing ADM to varying degrees.

Wow they wasted no time dropping that markup on you. I just checked on the Subaru website it seems like you can't switch dealers. Here's what it says.

That's ridiculous that they won't let people switch.

Ford and VW are the same process. Your online reservation is just a config. The dealer submits the order on your behalf to the manufacturer and that order stays with the dealer (you can't move the order to a different dealer). Markups is PRE-AGREED to with Ford.

Ford allows markup. Don't like media BS tell you otherwise. Once an order is abandoned or cancelled, Ford dealer can sell that to anybody else for $10K more.

Here's the response I received from the dealership that I ended up reserving through:
"Hey xxxx,

When and if you reserve a vehicle through Subaru.com. You should be assured a vehicle. Brilliance is already adding about $40,000 of just tools and equipment to get ready for having EV vehicles in place. We are going to have parts and service staff trained on 100% emission free vehicles and putting in place charging stations. All expected to take place in the next few months.

Brilliance Subaru is Not charging over msrp, we have no hidden fees, and do not add any packages to any vehicles. Based on current customer information. We have not heard that, about the latter option. That could save you an extra $4K in addendums, that we don't charge. I would reach out to the other dealership and ask for a breakdown of their fees, addendums, and packages required to purchase a vehicle through them. "

Hopefully they follow through. It'll be my first purchase from this dealership after taking it there over the past 4 years for service.

The dealership I ended up reserving with didn't give me a allocation amount, but Grand Subaru, where I purchased my other 3 subies, said they were allocated 11.

I originally was going to reserve through Grand and knew that they had a list of people interested, but is 35-40 minutes from me. And had quite a decent dialogue with them since November.

I felt that I had a better chance at Brilliance which is much closer to me. Finalizing my reservation 3 minutes in like I did, I probably would have been fine at either place.

Sounds like Subaru is suggesting a trickle out approach and might deliver 1-2 a month at each location.

They have been pretty darn good about pricing all along...and also are vendor sponsors all of this forum's sister Subaru forums. (Ascent, Outback, Forester, etc.)

Faulkner Subaru (3 Eastern Pennsylvania locations in Bethlehem, Harrisburg, & Mechanicsburg) does not do additional dealer markups by policy.

A stripped down 2022 Forester 182 hp for an MSRP of $25,195+$1,125 Destination and Delivery. Common practice for Faulkner is to order a Forester with WILDERNESS trim which is an extra $7,625. Faulkner often adds another $2,615 in options so that it is $10,240 above the base price.

So I will presume that most Solterras that arrive will be Touring trim.

Vic Bailey Subaru in Spartanburg, SC, where I have my reservation, told me that they will be pricing the Solterra the same as all the other new cars on their lot, which is MSRP minus $250. I didn't ask about dealer fees.

Hey Steve, There is only a Doc Fee of $99.00 your tax in the state you live in , Title fee $25.00 . Lic plates ? and if there is a lein they charge $10.00 to put on title . That's it. NO OVERAGE CHARGES WHAT SO EVER . I'm sorry this is being done at some dealerships . We don't pull that crap here . Let me know if you need anything else . Thanks Much ! Danny
